we are really proud and honored to present espectrum, a year-long effort to put together a compilation of the best dub techno. the idea was simple, but ambitious: ask some of our favorite artists for one track to epitomize dub techno�the style of music we�ve loved and continued to develop since our birth as producers and a label. with a very precise idea of what we wanted to collect, the compilation was carefully built with hypnotic, obscure, dense, and magical sounds with an eternal hook. these are the kind of tracks that will never lose their appeal, because they go above and beyond labels, styles, and trends, resisting the passage of time. after the first tracks starting coming in, the idea grew more and more special, and the concept even stronger. we knew we were onto something really big. and, finally, here it is.

answer code request picks up where he left off with his album (code, ostgut ton, 2014) and 12� (calm down, mdr, 2015): with the neume ep the berghain resident offers three new tracks, meandering between restrained club contexts and brittle break beats, machinery and futurist soulfulness. the eponymous track �neume� starts off on a with shuffling rhythms atop a heavy kick, soon caught up by first surging then predominant drone motifs, flashing bleeps and piercing strobe sounds. �meta� on b1 clocks in instantly without any build-up: its rhythm section sets the tone with broken beats while acr slowly carves out more musical detail and textures: subtle command vocals from the machine room, swelling synth pads and other chilling, athmospheric means are subsequently being added until the track�s break where the emphasis shifts towards the kick, pads and synth melodies until the track�s sustained, smooth outro. �vis� on b2 is the ep�s most protruding track: classic uk garage shuffle rhythms and amen breaks are contrasted by a funky kick and dreamful pads, intertwined with additional sparse percusion, layered with what in the first instance sounds like chirping birds but then like sparking wires. answer code request continues what he does best: combining the warm human touch with chilled alienated aesthetics.

already three years after his third album, vitalic is back on jennifer cardini�s records label correspondant records with two original new tracks. often unclassifiable, but always efficient, vitalic shouts out and restyles his universe under many different ways. after having mixed electro music to rock, to disco and then to pop in the course of his three albums, « film noir » ep invites us to a spatial journey. unusual, unknow, fascinating, powerfull and sometimes dark , this project defines itself as a cold disco. his own and recognizable esthetic shows here two of his multiple faces : �film noir� will remind absorbing universe of german sound of 90�s : a techno and slow kick, a spatial slicks and a worrying mental melody. �ooey�, a sort of hallucinated electro pop joined by some chorists, without forgetting lady disco despite of its new wave bass.

this record can easily be classified as library and will probably find a spot on the shelf with viberts nuggets, the strange world of bernard fevre and carpenters assault on precinct 13. listening to these tracks moves your senses back and forth through time, from 80s sci-fi back to raymond scotts early 50s experiments. the perfect soundtrack for bedrooms, late night dinners and greenhouses ed dmx contributes to a tradition in musical history, a richly vivid trail in which composers influence each others harmonies and ways of writing tunes, like an endless ping-pong game between minds and individuals but at the same time between continents and places throughout the world.

the new analog solutions 018 , label owned by the spanish producer eduardo de la calle, will be released in may.this time presenting a various artists, by kristina and orbe, that combine an ep with a personal character, full of floating arrangements and inherently techno flavor, but sophisticatedly dub. it seems that the label analog solutions will take refuge next references on collaborations lauching a series of various artists so better to be alert.

shlomo opens the ep with a deep and droning, yet uptempo track. ben gibson continues on the a-side with a synth and tom-driven track, in which the main synth really draws you into the track. takaaki itoh is put on the b1 spot and continues the deep vibe the artists set on the a-side, yet in a more minimalistic way. his track keeps on evolving and growing ever more, while the track in it s core does not change that much. overall severity closes the ep off with a moody banger. this dance floor oriented track focuses on percussive elements and the drums a lot. this track is one of the last ones made by the late max_m, who formed overall severity together with wrong asessment, which makes this ep a little bit more special. four different artists, but a great sounding ep with four tracks that compliment each other really well!

on t you get fooled by the name of our 8th release! no up no down is the main title and the song itself is everything but linear. the organic percussion rhythms in combination with the warbling subbassline gets you into the groove from the first moment. the booming kicks and rough-hewn hats is lending a vibrant edge to the mix. a morphing ethereal guitar riff, filtered to the edge and the slightly insane giggeling vocal effects, carry you away in a chant-like hypnosis. nothing here feels like a static loop. it s a masterclass in restraint, tension built to breaking and then get resolved.

quite a few months have passed since adam port released his last original material on keinemusik. it�s been almost too long. but then again, every expert will confirm, you won�t see a �sonnenfinsternis� every other week. port�s new ep is going under the name of that very astronomical curiosity and accordingly, the like-titled cut on a can only be the result of a rare cosmic constellation. it starts with a spoken word field recording. could it be, someone secretly recorded parts of the internal pre-release labelmeeting? we�ll leave that to your imagination. but then, all solid facts. a forceful beat, decorated with hihat-hiss, stoically pounding synthbass, rattling snare-staccato and space-opening synth-layers. finally, some siren�s wailing, just in case someone didn�t get the immediacy of this material. classy floor substance, that is, with the scarcity value of an eclipse. �working for it�, as the first track on the flipside, is rather going for the deeper realms. this coproduction with jennifer touch, a singer/producer that just moved from leipzig to berlin, is built up on a cosy, warm synth-priming, that touch congenially contrasts with her undercooled wavy vocals. an emotional rollercoaster, if you will.

music is about discourse: it�s about ideas, about the intellectual project. anyone can build a �beat�, but not everybody can produce an interesting argument for it. this implies the idea of romanticism as a notion of tradition and respect for certain rules. romanticism understood as virtuosity in the manipulation of art production tools. virtuosi of their own methodology. certain pedigree of virtuosity is definitely needed�but in many regards it also remains an extremely conventional formalism, which is at the core of every artist. it doesn�t matter if you have to piss around in the subterranean electronic music trenches for over two decades. a true pioneer simply has to live with that sort of dichotomy. here there are two good examples.

bjarki is from iceland. born and raised. despite the fact that bjarki is known for making extremely powerful dancefloor tracks he doesnt seem to belong to any particular genre. something this triptych of lps demonstrate very well. his music is at times cinematic and theres a story behind each track. bjarkis music always has something to do with him personally, but hed rather the listener lose themselves in the music than pay much attention to the man behind them. either on a record or to one of his ever evolving live sets

i was deep in texas when a call came through... -hey man it s cherry ! ...we got some sick new shit for you, gonna blow your mind- i waited nervously for the package. it arrived two weeks later. i slipped the hot black acetate from its wrapper and placed it on the turntable... wired guitars wail like banshees on heat, primal beats erupt drenched in dark juice from roots of trees slick with crunk. flutes and bells hang like exotic flowers that reek of jungle sex and all night long the pulse goes on and on and on as usual cherry was right...this most surely is one sick motherfucker of a record. don t get me wrong there s warped beauty here aplenty but you gotta take it easy. don t ingest it all at once...make sure you re in comfortable surroundings, trust me i know...six months later and i m still feeling the burn. damn you cherry garcia.

trolldans once again opens its musical tome of fairy tales, this time featuring the gif-ted sound sculptor edanticonf. in his chapter of the trolldans volume, edanticonf presents us with the three crying fairies. it is a tale in four parts of desire and tears - as every good story should be. the first fairy tells us about a lake in the deep woods where a young princess called tuvstarr once lost her gold heart. no creature of the forest could convince the princess to let it go, and so she stayed there by the black lake until she turned into a beautiful flower. the second fairy tells us how the princess, before she lost her precious necklace, would ride like the wind through the forest on the back a grand elk. the princess loved the thrill and the elk loved the princess. vril steps in and actually lets us hear the noble elks heart racing from both the pace and his devotion to tuvstarr. the third fairy ends endanticonfs beautiful but melancholy tale with a glimmer of hope: by the darkest of lakes, the loveliest flo-wers grow. the end.

a lurching broken beat and detuned technicolour chords drive the title track, an ode to the �nocturnal� raves happening in his hometown as a kid. caraiba is a hypnotic percussive workout, switching and snapping around it�s four-four palette and underpinned with a swaggering bass line. loop-finding (4jo) rounds out the ep with scattered beats on top of a chopped and filtered sample of a rare-groove track, a fleeting but emotive sign-off for after hours listening.

jimpster s much loved eel pie island track first graced the coveted 10 years of systematic compilation from last year. now, after widespread love, label boss marc romboy has commissioned a set of remixes to give the track an extra lease of life for the coming summer months. the originals, locomotive esque, slow-mo jam is taken on first by keinemusik main-man and cocoon favourite adam port. the german brings techno and minimal sensibilities to the fore but with extra tempo and swing. a mid tempo beat drives the track as atmospheric flourishes and nuanced samples create a lighter and breezier feel. an added vocal adds a hazy dose of ethereal pleasure, as adam creates another slice of musical magic. fresh from his objektivity release, hyenah offers a version of eel pie island that brings a chiming, plonking vibe, wood block percussion and bongos, all fluctuating in a sea of tribal beats, deep house and delicious sub bass. another triumph for systematic.

tzusing returns to l.i.e.s. with his third and (final?) name out of place ep after two now sought after percusors leading up to this one. again we are not disappointed as the massive opener face of electric hits hard taking a typical breakbeat formula and adding some sort of bizarre ritualistic element like the zulu nation or george kranz in a ceremony at a steel factory. emotional eater slows the tempo down, but again the machines grind hard with tinges of acid, heavy rhythms and sparse vocals moving in and out, while the closer r is a stripped down beater made for mixing. top stuff from the in demand producer.

the good folk at kat records deliver release no. 28 in the shape of a 4 tracker of tasty audio goodness covering disco, boogie, house and a rather splendid leftfield number that defies any form of categorisation! hlb (henri le blanc) is the man behind these and deffo one to keep close tabs on! the a side covers of the disco,house element nicely with thunder and straight up boogie with loves comin. not direct edits, but reversions with elements added to spice up and delight. the flip is a hammond lead beauty with 2 tracks that lean slightly left of centre. country churches is a low slung deep house chugger that really does tease all the way and we finish things off with the ace touch my soul. elements of broken beat, soul and funk with a top vocal hook to set it off.

the find of the year? hidden amongst the master tapes for that roberta flack song written by stevie was stevie s own guide vocal, never heard of until now.. not just a basic guide vocal, but a full on, passionate stevie performance that makes this sound like a long lost stevie classic, overshadowing roberta s sweet vocal delivery, taking this soul masterpiece to new heights. with stevie on drums and keys also, the master at the top of his game. on the flip side, a classy slice of philly disco, reflexed without the rather dated and cheesy linda clifford song, focusing on the killer grooves and morphing it into a horn / guitar riff laden track, hands in the air style!

despite having deep roots within the club scene as a acclaimed producer, remixer and busy dj, kasper bjørke has in the past years been focusing his own album productions on song oriented compositions, suitable for home listening rather than the dance floor. the djs and ravers have been kept busy with remixes of his original versions - but for this new release, kasper turns his own full attention to the business of making people move. fountain of youth is a mini-lp drawing on kaspers 15 years immersed in club culture and inspired by some of the genres he plays in his own dj sets around the world, house, classic electro, post disco and techno.

following a superb contribution to dvs1s mistress imprint in 2015, minneapolis dj, producer and promoter mike gervais drops the four track precision process ep for ben sims symbolism imprint. an integral part of minneapolis small but vocal techno scene via his system parties and label, gervais is steadily breaking out and precision process will certainly aid his cause. from the tunnelling, rave tinged machine funk of precision process and power and pressure through to the fever-dream hypnotics of �deep breath� and motion, the latest ep makes for a memorable take on classic techno elements.

the prolific producer shows he still has plenty of tricks up his sleeve across all four cuts and stitches in acid, jack and chicago styles with his own sense of charm. the kings comes hard and fast out of the blocks with big hits, wild synths and raved-up vibes that will have you punching the air. knowledge is another banger with powerful kicks and globular bassline run through with more ravey sirens, but this time is a little more haunted. crossing paths is all about a simple but effective bassline that bounces along and takes you with it in ways similar to an omar s joint, then wait is the most stripped back and mysterious of the lot with cosmic melodies panning about in a spacious and airy deep house groove. utterly timeless from start to finish, this is another massively effective offering from innershades.

the third release in this series opens up with fanon flowers remix of be good to me on the a-side, and has everything we love about fanons signature sound, an industrial rave-stomper that provides a heavy 909 beat topped with mercilessly propelling chicago-style claps. the b-side kicks off with henning baers remix of visco space saves the world a super trippy and minimal interpretation of the much more heavy original, which was a raw and gloomy industrial monster with a bold noize overload. its progression changes build up neatly but peak in an epic spiral break down that shatters the soul. b2 is a remastered version of herz aus stahl by the mastermind christian morgenstern himself, presenting an upfront, sinister electrofunk monster that attacks with waves of synth menace straight from its metallic robocop-heart.

medical records presents the second release in our transfusions 12- singles series. not too far from medical s headquarters in seattle, resides josh rose aka derivatives in vancouver, bc. known for intense live hardware sets, derivatives has been making waves in the pacific northwest playing alongside multiple notable producers who have toured the area. transfusions presents the first release by derivatives containing 4 distinct and uncompromising tracks that could be loosely associated with minimal techno but with a more complex and certainly darker edge. the tracks were recorded late 2015 in vancouver. for fans of labels such as token, mote-evolver, and avian, you should dive in. presented on classic 160gram black vinyl in our transfusions 12- sleeve. mastered by martin bowes at the cage studios, uk.

ebony goes first with real truth and offers a track that is both punchy and powerful thanks to its raw and thumping drums, but spiritual and serve thanks to the pained and soul infused vocal wails up top. glistening glass pads and over sized hi hats add to the intensity of this classy rave banger. r then serves up focus, eight minutes of freaky and hypnotic techno with creepy voices moving about the space as distorted kicks and droning reverb brings a physical feel. it s intense and dark and then comes colossus, a breakbeat driven track with heavenly pads making for a grand and atmospheric headspace. cosmic signifiers and far off pads add to the serenity of it all and will leave you with both a heavy heart and a stomping foot.

filippo blasi foglietti returns to third ear for his second release, the copy principle, following his well-received debut, the john nixon memorial ep. djs, notably ellen allien and peter van hoesen, and many others continue to play this deep and trippy record. the copy principle is a more urgent, more stripped back proposition than john nixon memorial ep, but is identifiably filippo blasi foglietti, at his deep and trippy best. the copy principle is one of scottish philosopher david humes best known ideas. hume (born 1711, died 1776) states that our ideas come from our impressions. he wrote, all our simple ideas in their first appearance are derivd from simple impressions, which are correspondent to them, and which they exactly represent

coming up next on format is a new ep from the label s head honcho juan sanchez including remixes by jeroen search and andre kronert. the diffy ep marks juan s first format ep released under his own name, and it s definitely one that will turn heads on the floor. the original version of diffy and mirage reflect juan s trademarked minimal but hard-as-nails techno sound: staccato kicks, nervously rattling percussions and looped synth pulses make up the fundaments of both tracks, locking in all ingredients for proper techno clubbing.up first on the remix tip is renowned techno veteran jeroen search, whose remix of diffy is a chunky piece of stripped floor funk with subtle hints of detroit techno. following up is a rerub by andre kronert, who drops a beefy slab of mid-tempo techno that s particularly heavy on the dub side of things. 007 does have a license to kill for a reason, you know...

for the second bad barbie records vinyl release of 2016 we are more than exited to bring you the magnificent work from the bla bla music owner daniel sanchez with his impromptu ep. here we have four amazing pieces where each one tells a different history. the first one pearled into droplets saw the light after a great live jam and the result is combination of several layers of base elements with subtle minimalistic articulations. these, in combination of the bass and synths lines do create a truly amazing micro house piece. the second one vague, is an atmospheric dub were a single synth chord raises in slowly, followed by a very subtle kick and bass line to set a bit of rhythm to the whole thing, creating a superb dreamy vibe while the chords do their thing with delicate reverbs and delays in the backend. a great musical piece indeed. for the third track we have yi, again another amazing micro house jewel born from a live jam, but this one is even more energetic than the first one and it also includes, besides a rocking bass line, analog synth chords that lifts up the mood during specific moments, which also do their part articulating themselves perfectly with some occasional twisted vocals that helps create an amazing party vibe from beginning to end. and if this wasn t enough we also have bedroom stories vocal tool that daniel included with his delivery, which can help spice up a dj set with ease.

dave aju has been a black catalogue homie from nearly the beginning and we are excited to have him on board with this fantastic, wide-ranging ep of underground house bombs. all three tracks invoke underground soul/rnb and house a la detroit legend moodymann, but with that trademark aju twist

nycs legendary sam records dropped the mysteriously named k.i.d.s dont stop- in 1981. it has it all trancey arpeggios, vocoders & vocals trading off with each other, brass & some heavyweight disco drums that helped propel it forth into the hallowed category of club classic. the record perfectly suited the open minds and open ears of discerning disc jocks in locales such as new york and chicago where this sublime piece of electronic disco sleaze would get plenty burn on the city s infamous wbmx thus having a huge impact, along with a whole host of other similar records, on the burgeoning house scene that was germinating in the fertile mid western soil. b-side cut do it again is a pleasant enough early 80 s disco jam, but compared to the futuristic burner that is dont stop on the other side theres one clear winner. a must have for all cosmic, disco, funk aficionados. now made available again, legitimately licensed, remastered and reissued in conjunction with sam records new york city.

april showers bring may flowers, but this april claude vonstroke brings you the rain break. inspired by two different songs from the 80s - (razes classic break for love and oran juice jones the rain), claude has replayed and re-sung all the music from scratch to make a special cover tune of both tracks changed and combined into a surefire dirtybird classic. to quote vonstroke, i kept singing the break for love bassline over and over again in my head but the vocal that always popped in over the top was from the oran juice jones. i cant explain why that happened but i just thought they went together so well that i ran with it.here comes the b is a much weirder affair. built with massive psychedelic effects, a huge kick and almost no hi-hat pattern, this is late night cavemen music at its best. this big release from cvs will have you wishing for a downpour so you can go walking in the rain.

what can be said about dance mania? simply put, some of the rawest, most jacking house music ever committed to wax has come out on the chicago label. work it! from 1994, courtesy of the mighty parris mitchell & rj hall is slamming, an update of steve poindexter s classic work that m..therfucker but done dance mania style! heavyweight stuff. pair this with its alright on the flip, which takes a deeper turn and you ve got am essential 12inch dug deep from within the vaults. this one is rare too! now it s here again, remastered and reissued with the full consent of mr.mitchell too, what s messing with that? essential chicago business!

they say you have your whole life to make your first album, years upon years of growth, learning and experience filtered into one perfect record. your debut is supposed to be the one you labour over, while the follow-up is meant to be served up within spitting distance of the last. well, not if you�re london based wild palms. �we did that in reverse,� explains the band�s sardonic, quick-witted frontman lou hill. �the first album was just the songs that we would play live, we wrote it really quickly. but this one took ages...� five years in fact.
recorded by the band in the same self-built manor house studio where they made their 2011 de-but �until spring�, the new album �live together, eat each other� is a lusciously layered offering of hazy experimentalism and off-kilter alt-pop, that follows in the auspicious lineage of beach house, cocteau twins and tv on the radio.
